Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi!

Need some advice. I am trying to decide if I should keep this 8 month old blue copper roo, or try for better in our 8 week olds and chicks. We do not have the facilities to keep lots of breeding roos!

I was supposed to sell him, but I'm having second thoughts, as the squirly tail he had when he was younger seems to have corrected in time?! His eyes are still a little dark.

Thought?

Thanks in advance!

YEAH!! We got rain yesterday, with a few more chances in the next couple of days!

We probably got about an inch yesterday, so while it did help, we sure could use a lot more. Now the humidity is way up, and the temps are expected to be 100* for the next 5 days at least!

Won't be so bad if we can get some rain in between days.

Modem is behaving this morning, but I am watching one on ebay to get as a backup. I know this one is getting ready to puke.

On a good note, the rain and cooler weather yesterday, seems to have brought down the swelling in the head of that one Silkie chick I was going to cull for wry neck. He is up and running around normally this morning! It was sad not seeing Lazer in their pen this morning, he was so sweet...

Christie ~ Not that I know anything about the Blue Birchens, but I think I'd go with the third boy, like Vicki said. Size is easy to get back, color, not so much.

Mornin lady! Quiet in here this morning. Sure glad you got some rain, I bet its an awesome relief, even if its not a ton of rain.
I can't believe in less than a week I'll have birchen babies!...wait, that means I gotta get the hatcher goin on Thursday to get the eggies in! Gotta remember! Can't wait!

Its gonna be cooking for the next couple of days up here, but am hoping to do another round of update photos on birds after that. I have some really nice looking chicks coming up, and need to go through them again and cull out the ones I don't plan on keeping for the sale next week. I'm hoping I'll get down to the last of the marans from this years hatchings after that and will be able to let birds grow out for a while before I make my final decisions.

Hey Vicki! Yeah, don't forget to turn on the hatcher! Are these going to be blue or blacks, or both?

My gal Olivia is trying to go broody again, she just can't quite seem to find a decent place to do it! She has spent the last couple of nights in a box on the front porch, not good. I'm going to snag her today and stick her in the run with her eggs, if the cats haven't gotten to them!

I'm sure gonna try not to forget! I like being able to watch them hatch through the clear door! These are all just blacks from Rod. I can't wait to see how it goes. Sure hoping for as good of luck as Kim had with hers! I just don't know what to say about the humidity since its been so out of control here. I've tried to hold it steady, but no telling for sure til hatch day!
The devlopment has looked good, just worry about the air cells being at the right place for the chicks to hatch properly. I'm probably worrying too much, but can't help it! I'm so dang excited!

Well I sure hope they all come through for you! It's so thick here this morning, you could open the bator door and still have enough humidity!

Thank God there is a breeze!

Everyone! Still drinking my coffee and catching up. I have over 30 Blue and Black Coppers.... tried to sell them, and GIVE them away, but NADA.... should I set some of them? I am going to put a few eggs in in a few days. My Wheaten Ams are spastic layers and I have to hatch them when they are laying and I think I am going to put in some cuckoos since I know that one girl is OUT of the pen... should I put just the DARKEST eggs in....

Slick this is all your fault!
