Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Vicki~
A Black Copper cockerel that I hatched out on New Years Day. Looking for some opinions on him.
Please keep in mind that I do not care for his comb, but feel like it is something I can work with if the rest of him measures up.
Also, lots depends on whether or not he continues to bulk. If not...he came from very nice egg genetics so if he is not worthy enough to borrow a few of his good assests from, then he will be put with 2 of my girls to produce Marans for egg color only.

They are all off..... You just need to know how much and base your numbers off that.

I am doing it a second time to confirm how far off. I expected it to be... just not that much off.

Temps are much much cooler here today- actually warmer in my house then outside. Nice cool breeze.... all the birds outside are feeling frisky lol playing around and all.... nice to have SOME relief! Now we just need rain.........

Hi all! I confess to having been lurking on this thread for quite some time now. I tried to read all of the pages to date, however, there is so much information that it is a bit difficult. Wanted to thank all of you for being so informative. I am learning a lot and feeding my chicken addiction. Thanks again! This is a great thread.

If only BYC uploads were working.................................................. I have no patience when BYC is not playing nice. Can you tell?

I have 3 BCM from the Bev Davis line. 1 roo and 2 pullets...Yay for me..I should be getting eggs soon...I hope. Cannot wait for them dark eggs!! I don't show! I'm just a backyard chicken raiser.
All my chickens are spoiled rotten and I love em that way.

Welcome! I am sure you will enjoy your Marans greatly. They are a lovely breed of chickens to have hangin' around.

That boy looks good Kim, like you said, his combs not the greatest, but I was wondering on the side body shot....is it just the type of camera you used, cause it looks like the copper is in areas it shouldn't be?
