Hi All!

It's been quite a long time since I've been on but I just wanted to post a few pictures of one of my newer BCM boys. I need to get a good profile picture as the one I have makes him look like he has a short back with a high tail set but he doesn't. He still has a few feathers with a bit of white in his shanks but hasn't gone through his final juvenile molt yet I think. He's about 5 month's old. I have a feeling he's going to be a rather large boy and has a brother who's almost identical but who's comb isn't as attractive. I'd love to know what y'all think and will try to get some better pictures.

So here is my 3rd generation OE roo. What do you think of his looks as a part-Marans? He is 7 months old. Sorry about the blurry pics. He was chasing raisins my husband was throwing to him. Just thought I would share the pics. He was suppose to be a she... wonder what color eggs his chicks would have if I breed him with brown or blue egg layers. I wonder if he has any of the blue genes in him. He has a straight comb, so probably not. oh well....I am an EE hen.

as long as there was a bit of egg talk,,,,my BCM pullets gave me some fairly dark eggs(5-6 on the chart) over the first 6 weeks of lay,,,, they have faded fast, is this a normal "cycle" or do things like diet, weather, possibly genetics figure in to the length of time we enjoy the dark eggs?

thanks

Welcome to the BYC marans thread!

I am not sure if there is a way to answer your questions.

He is a pretty Blue Olive egger... If you want to know what color egg gene he is carring, then I would mate him to something like a leghorn. The pullets from that mating should give you some idea as to what color gene he is contibuting to the mix....
