Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I fell in love with the eggs first. Then the blues.... then I met my little washingtons (aka pinks chicks lol) and love the pullets to pieces. Great personalities. I have a variety of colored eggs in my cartons and the marans just add so much enjoyment to cooking. Plus they have feathered legs and are much chunkier then my other birds. I do it for the variety.... hope that we can start breeding them someday.

And hope they learn to use their nests for laying. Laying in the run is a pain for so many reasons ....

Question for all who breed the Marans???
More like an un-official poll.......
What was the thing that grabbed you most about the Marans to make you want to breed them and stick with them?
eta: Basically looking for what makes you tick when it comes to these birds.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

The eggs are what grabbed my attention to the breed first. Then the bird personalities and my stubborn streak took over. Sometimes I think my stubborn is more masochistic lately!
