Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Blarney, from this picture, this female looks VERY nice to me!

I have a black hen with feathered legs and feet on the outside like this one. I thought maybe it was a Cochin. The lady told me it was an Austrolorp but now I am wondering. Do they come in black like this one? How can I determine what she is?

yup, that's exactly what it was for me. The best luck I have for keeping from getting an ear infection is to sleep at an incline so that your sinus cavities can't fill up as full overnight.

When I start getting crudy I clean my ears out good with peroxide or alcohol and that seems to help keep from getting an ear infection. I've also discovered that if I eat plenty of greens and stay away from processed food I don't get sick like I used to.

yeah, I hadn't been this sick in about 8 years....its always at the worst possible time. Unprocessed foods definitely help!

You could post pictures on this thread. There are many very knowledgable people here who can point out the different aspects of the breed that your bird has OR lacks. Her egg color is going to be a big clue. She needs to lay a 4 or darker to be considered a Marans.

Where is everyone? Marans folks SPEAK.... Ok I am going to bed.
In the morning, I am sure that I will find that the west coast folks got out here and partied....

I felt so bad yesterday that I forgot to turn the eggs in the one incubator. I hope I didn't ruin the batch.
The eggs went 36 hours without being turned. . . .

Today is day 21 in the other incubator. I had some pipping action this morning, but nothing has hatched yet...
