Thank you pinkchick!
I'm thankful to have the resource of information that BYC forums supplies.
My plans for a Cuckoo Rooster recently fell through, but
as spring rolls around, new opportunities will present themselves for a mate for Chick-Chick I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about the roo plans falling through......but I am sure you will find one. :)

Congratulations on your Whites starting to lay Blarney! Exciting isn't it!

Hi Donna! How's it going down your way? Chickies doing good? Getting any eggs lately?

I'm getting 2 eggs every other day from the same 2 hens........the other 4 refuse to start laying I swear! Waiting on the Birchens (1 of them is scratching around in the nest box though) and waiting on my Splash Copper gal, Roberta, to start laying. I am very very shocked that she has not started up yet, she is going to be 8 mos. old pretty soon. ARGH!

Funny chicken story from the last few nights. Darryl, my trusty 4 year old original Splash Copper hen is broody again  and has been sitting tight on the nest for the last 2 days (I am taking the eggs from her as I don't want her to be broody right now but the silly girl keeps laying another egg) it's too cold out for her to raise chicks now. Anyway, she is also the bird that raised the Birchens ....well the Birchens have been running with the coppers for a few days since I had a security breech in the coop (haven't had time to fix it...so now I have to start my 6 week clean out all over again...geesh!) but Darryl and those Birchens (6 mos. old now) TOTALLY remember each other even after being seperated for about 3.5 months which I would have thought would have never happened, but all 5 (even the 2 roos) of those Birchens for the last 2 nights when I go out to lock the coop door have been piled under their Mamma in the nest box with Darryl sitting on top of them with a huge grin like that cat from Alice in Wonderland.

I have seen it all now. Crazy birds!

Everybody here is fine. My Marans are laying like crazy. 10-13 eggs a day. I have one that thinks she wants to be broody..... I think NOT LOL. I am going to do some more culling to an Olive Egger pen in a few weeks, but my Blue Wheaten Am roo needs to grow a little more first. You blue roo I think has had some frost bite damage or else he was fighting the guinea through the fence and he has lost a point on his comb. Still looks kinda bad. I need to get on some test matings I need to do in the Cuckoos and BLRW. I will update you on the Cuckoos if I fine anything out of the ordinary.

Still hatching like crazy... well not crazy amounts yet. Pretty soon I will HAVE to start setting for spring chicks. It was in the 70's here for a few days, but now it is back in the upper 30's and 40's. If the MUD would dry up things would be better. I hate these muddy runs. I see a truck load of pea gravel in my future... the sooner the better

Oh that is funny and good to know. I put all the biggest of my chicks (four hatch dates) outside, when it warms up some more I'm going to put the next biggest ones out there and hopefully get the last outside in a couple weeks. Kind of worried about the bigger ones picking on the littler ones when I put them out together.

Hi Kim, I do have some fuzzy butts from NYD hatch 7 Splash Marans, 1 Birchen Marans, 2 Exchequer Leghorns, and 2 BCW polsh. I have more in the bator, I have started setting from who ever is laying every Friday now. So starting the 26th I will be having weekly hatches. I just got 5 new Birchen chics fro Ohio so we will see how they look as the grow. I got 8 Whites from 2nd week of Oct. lost1 but have 3 roos and 4 pullets to work with and all look very nice at this point (Thanks Ernie) Hands are full and will be glad when mud season ends right Donna!
