I've pondered Marans before, but I'm wondering about Welsummers, too. Could someone post some pics contrasting their egg coloring?

I have Marans in black, blue, white and Golden Cuckoo. To create splash in my lines, what colors would need to be bred together? Or can you not do that?

Last pic has the Wellies on the bottom, BCM are the rest. These are all in the incubator now at day 9. I have had Welsummers that layed much lighter eggs but were very speckled. I am only breeding/setting eggs from my darkest layers this year.

I just hatched a mixed batch of Marans. The eggs were split between BCM, White Marans, and Golden Cuckoo Maran. The breeder didn't mark the eggs, and now I'm confused. The White Maran chicks are obvious, but there are a few that are either BCM or Golden Cuckoo, with varying shades of copper, black, yellow, and gray. Some of them have yellow dots on their heads. Is there something specific I should be looking for to tell them apart? Sorry, I haven't hatched Golden Cuckoo Marans before.

I think the one of the left is BCM, and the one on the right is Golden Cuckoo? The one in middle I'm not sure?

HI! Welcome to the Marans thread!

The young Wheatens are too young to make a judgement on their quality. Give them a couple more months.
The male looks to have maybe too high of a tail. Do you have more photos?
The hen's coloring is my favorite things about Wheatens...I just love that body color.

Sorry these are not my birds, I have no more pictures. I will put some pictures of the pullets I have up, so you can judge them if you don't mind?
