Is that a bluebell? I have one, they are marans crossed with RIRs and there eggs are brown/tint, if its a bluebell
If she isn't laying now she might be waiting for longer days; chickens need a certain amount of daylight to lay
haha, the one I have has been around as long as I have been alive. Its one that has a rotating wheel with a bunch of different sizes of punches. I use the smaller ones with no problem. I haven't used it the last couple of years only because I've done mass hatches at different times from the same matings, so bands were just as easy when they got older. I just kept them separate til I had made the first few rounds of culling.
you can enter any color and breed of bird, even if it isn't APA approved. Those birds that are not APA approved however is limited in how far they can advance. They will be eligible only for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc and Best or Reserve of Variety if other Marans are shown. If he is the only Marans there, then the judge can make the choice to make him Best of Breed if they wish and usually if they are a really good example of the breed.Hi I have a show question. Black copper marans are an "approved" breed and can be entered into an APA show, I undrstand. How about blue copper? If we brought one to a show (junior division), could it be enteted?? We have one lonley blue copper chick about 5 weeks old (?pullet or cockerel we cant tell yet), and we love to show in shows but are just getting started so we are learning as much as possible. Of course type and color are paramount for shows, but I just want to know if our little guy can even be entered if he/she turns out good. Thanks!!

When can I expect to see male/female characteristics pop out of my little guy, and what will be the first signs? (Larger comb?, hackles,, anything else?) We've had other chickens for years, but this is our first marans.
Vicki, I do not think a judge has an option to make a none recognized variety of marans BB or RB.you can enter any color and breed of bird, even if it isn't APA approved.
