Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks for posting this. It is good information to have!!
Does it look that yellow in person? I haven't seen anything that yellow on any of mine. When my roo had something in his earlobe it looked very white.

I would say it was more tan to white than yellow. Probably just the photo. It doesn't look like this anymore, I think/hope I cured it. The other birds' combs do not look like this, it is white flaky, like when you have a sunburn and it peels. But I wonder if the Marans combs started out looking like that, I just don't remember because I wasn't keying in on it and maybe just didn't catch it early. Of all the problems to have with chickens, this is one that I sure wasn't expecting!

Thanks for the tip about the coconut oil. I will try that on dry-looking combs. I use it a lot myself in cooking.

I don't believe that it is considered common for webbed feet. I know in 2010/2011 there were some people on byc that were having issues with this. I don't recall who the breeder was that they were getting the birds from but think it was from also from someone here on byc. Not sure where those birds ended up or if they got culled...

I got shipped eggs from eBay haha so who knows. But ya I thought it was very interesting and honestly kinda cute. If she's a she, she will just be for eggs obviously :)

The webbed foot thing - several folks on BYC have had birds with this issue. I've never seen it firsthand, but lots of photos were posted maybe a year ago (?) A few folks found research indicating that it is much more common in feather-legged birds, and almost somewhat goes "hand in hand."
