recently found your site link and checked it out,,,, have to say I wish you were closer.  I'd love to get some of your "blue blood" on my property, nice stock you've got going on there, nicely done !

Thank you very much Ray for the kind words. I look forward to seeing what this year will bring me, they still need alot of work, I am hoping to get some better Blue Coppers out of the single matings I am doing with them. With the help of the fabulous folks here on BYC and some extreme culling, I think I just might achieve something closer to what I have been striving for the last 5 years.

Well shoot. I missed you again! Was off making dinner. I missed Debbi on FB earlier too. Grr.

I MISS DEBBI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok got that off my chest.

Anyway, hows it going? You and Don got your 'bators going yet? Don should have his going...wasn't he getting eggs a week or so ago?

Looks like a couple of the girls are going to give me a few eggs......so hopefully pretty soon I can get them into the bator, but still must wait for them to clear out as I don't want to take any chances because of the Birchen male.

Eggs that are incubating right now....well......the Splash eggs from Raven are developing good, but the air cells are all over the place, we will see. I believe they were handled pretty rough in shipping. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It looks like the eggs I set from my girls, all but one have quit. Tis okay with me as I only set them on a whim and I was worried about that Birchen male in the first place, so...................

Daisy Doo my goose has started laying and you know what that means don't you? :D Goslings!!!!!! I love Goslings!!!!

I sold the Birchen pullet with the sprig as a layer. She went to a wonderful man who just wanted a pretty bird. Culled the other cockerel finally too. Now have the 2 pullets left and the male. Neither one of the 2 remaining pullets are showing any signs of anything on their combs, but still waiting for one of them to start laying and for the other one who started laying a couple weeks ago to start back up again. She gave me 2 eggs and then nothing. I'm going to test mate them to the male (sibling) to see what happens with the sprig. Did I tell you I was wrong when I thought the male had a sprig as well? He does not, matter of fact he actually has a pretty nice comb so that is a good sign. Just hope that sprigs don't pop up in the single test matings.

Sure thing Becky! You are too kind!

They look good development wise, but the air cells are not where they should be and they are a bit large. The large could be my mistake as I had a humidity issue for a couple days. Seems like I have that straightened out now so we will see what happens. I am going to candle them again this weekend to see if correcting the humidity problem I had helps out with the large air cell. Will definitely keep you posted!

They go into lockdown on the 19th.

Hi all. I'm excited to have found this thread and am learning so much. I've got 12 little Marans incubating. There are 6 BCM and 6 White Marans. I am excited to add them to my backyard flock. The man I got the eggs from shows his but I am only interested in them to liven up my eggbasket and I think they are pretty birds.

Welcome to the Marans thread!

He looks to be a nice big boy

BTW and a little off topic.....but I LOVE Central Oregon.....lived there for 8 years and have a sister that lives there. What a great little piece of heaven that Central Oregon!
Thank you, he is wonderful! And Central Oregon IS a bit of heaven, very blessed to be here for the better part of 20 years and can't seem to leave for long!

My maran girl had been laying a little over a month and stopped?

She's been awesome laying about 5 a week. Well if she doesn't lay today that will be 4 days and no egg. Should I worry that she's egg bound or is this normal?
