I can't remember for sure but I think that is from my EE pen. My Lavender am roo seems to throw mottleds sometimes. I am growing them out to see what I get.

*whew* The colors we have already need so much work, I was afraid there would be another variety to muddle the mix!

Are you sure it is choc? It will not just show up. The genes have to be there for choc. Do you know if it is a pullet or cockerel?

Presumably a pullet, since chocolate is a sex link recessive.

I posted earlier in this thread and nobody responded. I also posted here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/739771/chocolate-marans/10#post_13466467 and nobody responded.

(FYI when I first pulled that batch of chicks from the hatcher I thought there was more than 1. But when I did an inventory there was only 1 that color).

I know the photo is a bit blurry but forgot to change out the lens. I am going to rehome my BCM rooster to a friend who wants to make Sex-linked EEs but can anyone tell me why the breast feathers are coming in with white tips? I have 2 older ones and both have this issue. I have some blues (splash male with same female) and this is not an issue.
I have had a few chicks grow feathers in like this. I had one pullet that I was sure somehow hatched out cuckoo out of my BCM's. She didn't keep those feathers and they were gone by the time was adult (probably gone by 12-16 weeks, actually). She had nice color as an adult, but did retain a white wing feathers. I don't think my chicks have had as many of those feathers as yours does, though.
