Oh, pink chick, I'm very sad for your girl there; it is hard to watch them feeling bad.

Thank you, yah it is hard to see her like this, knowing there is nothing else that I can do for her now. I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

As for Wheaten photos.....I'm guessing about 20 or so pages back, Illia posted photos of her most gorgeous Wheatens and Blue Wheatens. I will try to see if I can get you a link.

Glad you found it because I had someone stop by unexpectedly and wasn't able to get to it until just now. Yes, Wheatens are beautiful birds!

Pink~ So sorry to hear about your BCM girl. Have you tried a heating pad on low with a moist towel on top? I have never tried it, never had to, but a friend from many moons ago swore it worked with macaws! Worth a try??

Sorry to hear this Pink. Have you tried soaking her in warm water and while her vent is fully submerged, use your finger to insert in vent and try to work the egg out? If you can stretch the vent out a bit, water can get in and will help "wash" it out. I only had to do this once but found that I was getting nowhere trying to work a "dry" vent even with a lubed up glove/finger but in the water, the water acted like a douche (can I say that word on here) and worked great. In my hen's case, the egg was broken in the vent, so the water was used to wash her out and I was able to get all of the shell out by flushing water into her.

I don't have any marans but am very interested in blue copper and blue wheaton but most of what I see says thier egg color isn't as dark as BCM is there any truth to this? if so can you use BCM to influence the egg color and keep the blue color just curious an I enjoy seeing the pictures. beautiful birds

Broke down and bought a cheapo coop for the chicklets. While we are having some transitional weather, I figured they can go outside into the new coop. Can't keep them in the house forever!! So now, more fence building, putting the coop kit together, and I'm sure it will need "beefing" up. Pip is making progress with the big birds, and tonight, I left him to go in or out of his pen inside the coop. Of course, when I checked, he was in his pen, with the door left open. I've been leaving him in the coop like that in the mornings, and the big bullies haven't killed him yet!

Two of the big girls are now roosting on the top roost! The other girl "nests" with Fuglee on the floor. Poor Fugs can't even get onto the 10" roost I put in for chicks. Added some straw in there for a nest for the two, and they snuggle up on the floor in the corner. What a zoo this has become!

Hi Kenneth~ Welcome to the Marans thread!!

Check out Pinkchick's eggs from her blue coppers!! Better than a lot of BCM eggs that I've seen!

Heres a picture of my wheatens that I took this weekend....its really really hard to get a picture of them, as they are roaming free range with about 97 other chickens.
