She will be the very start of my backyard laying flock just so I can get some eggs. These are my (three) oldest as it was from my very first hatch. I have a second hatch which are only 2 weeks but those are lavender Orps so hopefully some pulletts there also for my future mixed flock.

I had already picked out a name for her if she was a girl so I will make it official and name her Jenna. Just because I think it is a pretty name for a pretty girl.

I am always amazed that the computer knows exactly what time it is also. And that it does the daylight savings switches all by itself. I will be going around changing all my other clocks myself.

Kim, in water fowl they usually call it angel wing and in chickens they normally say slip wing, weak wing, twisted wing. Don

Thank you!

Hello, can I jump in here with a question? I have two sister Marans pullets and their two brothers and I'm puzzled about the color variety that I'm seeing. I bought them as BCM straight run chicks and the two roosters have grown up into obvious BCM roos (at least to my untrained eye) and one of the girls is solid black with magnificently feathered legs. The other sister, however, is the puzzle; when I bought the chicks the breeder told me that the little light colored ones were "splash" and were a normal color out put from BCM parentage.... Sort of like Blue/Black/splash color genetics. Well, I'm no expert, but I do know that she is no "splash" of any kind. She looks like wheaten to me? Is wheaten a color possibility out of the BCM, or was there an oops in the breeding pens? I'm delighted, DELIGHTED with her eggs (as well as her sister's) and am not upset at all by the possible impurity, but very curious to understand what's going on here.

Here is the hen in question:

Hey Don... I had a thought...

There are so very few true black marans... you are so concientious about the proper black presentation... What about working on that line? Have you ever thought about it? They cannot be crossed with the brown/red birds but I think you would be a great person to take up that task.... There are so very few left in the states... that line could really use a concientious breeder who is knowledgeable and careful... You seem to have an affinity for the black and it's trueness.... What do you think???

The problem I would have is finding the original start. I have been trying to get a white male for two year with no luck. I would question most of the black as being just dark BC. Will start posting some pictures tonight in FB, oldglassblue. I have some really nice BC with no color that I am going to photo also. I have wheaten, Cuckoo. and white will get them all up this week. Don

I hope you notice you have four different color birds. Someone just threw a bunch of birds in a pen and hatched chicks. Anyone wants to see what the brown soft feather under the vent looks like, check the second male, also notice the males do not have leg feathers
