Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

It did go away. I was a bit sad - a copper barred Marans would have been snazzy. But it was more like the barring that you see on a young laced Wyandotte. Barring on the early feathers, but gone by the time they are grown.

Hello! I am new on this thread and don't have any Marans, but I'm interested in some Black Birchen Marans. Does anyone have any pictures to share?

Thanks!

TurkeyMountainChickens , Have you bred those birds, and if so, did the barring show up again? Any white feathers in the wings or tails? Thanks!

Hay thanks for your post. I did wright the sender and let them know how the eggs arrived like you suggested. I agree with you on that they may want to know how there eggs are doing in the mail. I all so let them know about the different way to pack the eggs. They seamed very sorry that they did not make it to well and even told me they would send a second batch to me. All i had to do was pay for shipping witch really is not that much so I am thinking about doing that. If they take the advise and pack them differently I should get a nice new set of eggs and if not then I will know for sure not to order from them again and an egg or two might make it in shipping so I could posable get some to hatch. I was wondering about this though. Would it be wise to place eggs to hatch at a later date in with the ones I all ready have in the incubator? Anyone know If there would be any thing wrong with doing that? As I was saying it is mu first time hatching eggs so i'm clueless with most of it. Other then what i read in books

I found photos of a mossy girl I hatched last year.

At about 7 weeks:

And at 6 months:

Beautiful, sweet girl, she lives in someone else's laying flock now.
Her egg was not as dark as my correct hens, contrary to others experience.

The sidesprig I am told breeds forward but I have no real personal experience with that. It is a fault in the showring and would be a reason for disqualification. I sure he is a lovely fellow...
