That sounds yummy! Ever had one on a hamburger-those are good too!

Yes!!!!!!! We have a restuarant here called The Masthead, their Masthead burger is to die for, it has a slice of ham (not ham sandwich meat, but real ham), a fried egg, a slice of swiss, 2 pineapple rings, 2 onion rings, teriyaki sauce and the rest of the burger fixin's. Talk about a messy in your face huge burger and every bite of it is worthy of going on my hips. I have to limit myself and only have one or two a year. With homemade fries on the side........OMGosh...................

i always feal safe haveing some eggs in the bator , My coop and out door run is impenetrable,,,, out door run is completely enclosed from top to bottom , I have cattle fence 2x4 covered in hardware cloth covered in chicken wire with nylon netting and in the back of my mind I still think of getting hit by a big predator and cleaning me out so having eggs incubating is like insurance .my coop s are like a sub were each of the 3 coops are conected but only 2 exits were each one is bear proof almost (kidding)
....by accident last winter i locked my sister in the coop /run for 2 hours and she was trying everything she could to get out , she had tin snips ,hammers and still couldnt get out 2 hours later we went looking for her ,she was ready to kill ! anyway my point is i still worry about coons and bear we lost alot to a coon around 4 years ago
now we have night vision cameras , and baby moniters to hear them coo at night .....
lol
yes i am 50 and wacked !

My fellow marans owners, I need some help sexing my delaware chicks. I know many of you have delawares too.
I started a thread with pics under "what breed or gender is it. . . . "

called "Did I hatch any delaware roos ? ?"

Please, look at my pics and give me your thoughts

Hey fellow carpenter Berk..
Cabin is looking good.. You chinking it?
We have been doing mostly peeled full scribe Swedish cope work.. (Log on log with just a little wool in the groove)

How about a band of electric around the run for the bears.. Mine is pretty much safe.. Clear fiberglass panels on the roof, 1/2 hardware cloth underground and up to 3' and a band of electric wire then just wimpy 1" chicken wire on up..
I personally feel the electric wire is great.. When our coop was by the house, I heard when the bears hit the wire.. (Sent the two cubs up the oak near the house, they would not come out for hours!) Not that I am worried about bears eating my chickens... The worry is them trashing the coop.

Maybe I am just lucky so far.. Lots of Coyote but they are wild woodland critters, they are scared of the chickens.....

I have an Ameraucana pullet that went broody... She is sitting on a clutch of 8 eggs... A bit of a mixed bag as both the Marans and Ameraucana roo are in with the hens, so could get Ameraucana chicks, Marans chicks or Olive eggers..

It will be interesting to see how she does. (We are limiting her to 8 eggs..) SO I will not be joining the New Years hatch,, but maybe maybe a Christmas hatch...

berkeleysprings ~ Bet your sis was ticked off for sure! LOL! Sounds like you're set up pretty good. Do you have an apron or buried fence at the fenceline too? My run has two strands of electric on it for extra protection. I've already had a coyote come to visit and get ZAPPED! He hasn't been back since that I know of. My two strands are at 6" and 37", but with winter coming on, I may have to rethink the 6" strand to account for snow. May put a third strand above it, where I can attach or dettach the bottom strand to accomodate for the snow. We usually don't get much here, but every once in awhile, we'll get an 18" snow or drifts, so I'll have to be watchful for that. Other than a bear, I don't think much is going to get through. I've got hardware cloth 4' up, with 4' 2x4 welded wire overlapping up to 6'. The run is covered with the 2x4 welded wire. There is a 2' wire apron on the ground, covered with packed chat gravel on top of it. The coop is inside of the run area, and closed up tight at night. I still worry. Need to get some motion sensor lights out in the back yard. Haven't seen a coon here in years. Had a Bluetick hound that traveled and was never hunted, but I think she kept them away. Now, I have two neighbors that are into coon hunting, so I think they will keep the population in check. Possums are shot on sight, hate those things! My fear is bears and big cats. I've been having dreams about black bears for over two years, so I know one is in my future. Guess I'd better get some slugs for the 12 ga.

Still waiting on that other egg!

No egg sandwich today. Pink, that sandwich you are talking about sounds...well, a once in awhile thing for sure!

Bet it's good though, glad there's nothing like that close to here!

Chicklets have been intigrating with the big girls, slowly, and it's going well with them. These big pullets are sheer EVIL! They are the bosses, all of them, and won't let any of the others forget it! Al will be fine for a bit, then for no reason, they will dart after one of the chicklets, or poor Pip, for NO reason. They are my evil, marauding terrorist chickens!

Fuglee roo is to the point that he could care less...that is until another cockerel should show signs of interest in the girls...then all bets are off!

Hmmm, guess the emoticons aren't working tonight??
