Jan~ lol.....I really have 158, but some of those are juvies and 9 are roosters. Add the 26 eggs in lockdown......I'm pushin' my luck with my DH...that is for sure!!!!!

And I just popped 18 more in the 'bator that a lady didn't pick up on Friday. shhhhhhh! Me thinks..me will figure out how to tell DH that I have chicks set for hatch on Christmas......ummm, on Christmas morning. I'll make him his favorite breakfast that should smooth things over.

Be sure to get it cleaned and inspected..

We are having fun with our broody in the double wide nest box... It is a little egg laying factory... Many of the hens sit next the broody one and lay their egg then the broody sticks it under her...

I have this vision of this little pullet sitting on top of a mountain of eggs....

24 birds down from 12 eggs a day a few weeks ago to maybe 6 now....

Coyote tracks in the snow by the coop this morning. Interesting they did not really spend much time inspecting the coop... They do not know what chicken is yet...

ON

On my first incubation, I hatched 4 chicks from my own eggs.
I think they are going to be mostly roos - - - maybe One pullet

I was going to set some more of my own marans eggs after the holidays. ...
I was hoping to hatch out some girls this time. However, the two girls I would
collect eggs from have quit laying again. So, has everyone else.

I went from total FEAST to FAMINE. I sold 4 of my laying hens two weeks ago
because I was getting to many eggs !

I had a young pullet lay her first egg today and then turn around and start eating it !

The egg was soft and rubbery, so I will see what happens over the
next few days. IF she continues to be a little cannibel, I may just have to find out how
good of meat birds Speckled Sussex are .

Congrats on the broody! I wish! But I think I wished too hard! Only had 2 bantam EE go broody this year and neither one of them followed through and 2- 2 year old BCM's went broody, one didn't follow through and the other hatched out 3. Nobody has wanted to get jiggy since. Huge bummer too...........I love watching broodies!!!!!

Hi Math!

Hope she snaps right out of the egg eating thing! She's being naughty this close to Santa coming for a visit, she better be careful! I understand Santa is a fancier of fried chicken.
