Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

very good. On that blue copper male I posted the other day, what do you think of how he turned out? I have a long way to go with some parts before I'm happy, but I'm getting there on the evenness of the copper and better size of the bird itself.
Vicki, I believe once you get the Blue Copper to where you like the looks there is no reason to use the BC any longer. With all the action on here lately could you post the Blue Copper male again. I remember looking at him.

yeah, let me go find it...I just have to remember if I've filed it yet or not. The quality of photo is crap, but he doesn't let me get close at all, I'm workin on it tho

I forgot, they changed the way we upload photos so I could pull it from here instead. Like I said when I posted him the first time, he is not standing as he usually does cause I had been chasing him and cornered him between the sets of kennels I have. He is about 6 months, give or take a couple of weeks. Hard to keep track of the broody babies as they were a couple here and a couple there. I have it written down somewhere in my hatching logs tho.

How did I miss him? WOW he look really nice. Love the color.

Yes Vicki, this is what I remember from him, I would think he is real good on color, if you use more BC he will be red in the shoulder area. His Blue is just about right also. Very nice looking Blue Copper. The combination of colors is what I like about the Blue Coppers.

Vicki, have you ever thought about how it would be to start over and not have these big Body Marans to work with

haha, I'd probably go to a different breed. Honestly tho, the first two years I was constantly researching and buying eggs from different places. I ended up keeping very, very few birds from all those batches of eggs. I decided I'd rather have 3 or 4 really good birds over having tons of birds running around that would do me no good. I don't know if I lucked out, or if its just experience, but what I started with wasn't anything like I have now in terms of body type. Its been my number one priority as I go along.

Mornin Kim! I see ya hiding there! heehee

Today is sort and cull day. I'm working on my list of birds that I know for sure will go, and then writing out my matings on paper so I can catch them up and move them around. I'm getting excited!
