Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Boy, there isn't much activity here anymore...I left & the place turned into a ghost town!

But seriously...I just sold ALL my chickens!

Now I need to get 'on the stick' and find some quail eggs to stick in Pinkchicks' 'bator.

I would like to get Bobwhite, California Valley, and Texas Blue Scale. I'm thinking about 30 eggs from each for a total of 100 eggs, hoping that out of 100, I might get 75 live fuzzballs.

I wanna raise quail & pheasants for a couple of years just to turn loose and populate my part of the river bottom. That, and I got tired of buying feed for chickens that were not producing!

Gotcha. This is my least favorite time of year for raising chickens since they aren't putting out any eggs. I do not believe in using lights on them, personally. So, I'm lucky to collect 3 eggs from...geesh, I don't even want to say how many hens!

I'm really looking forward to the days getting a wee bit longer in the way of sunshine all the time now...

Your wrong Mel... chickens always produce! Just sometimes it's not eggs, sometimes they produce BBQ!

One of them was a gorgeous XXL Blue hen that came from one of Pinkchicks' huge prize Roos that she had back in 2010 or 2011. (mine were born in 2011).
I wish I had been able to take pics before they left today.

After a few months with no Roo to ride them, their feathers are in perfect condition.
