Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have been away from byc for sometime now, and I am just starting to get back ino my birds. I just have a few but I wanted to share my favorite blue copper hen. She is not prefect but she lays beautiful eggs! I bought her from pinkchick 3 or 4 years ago!

Hey Don,

I see you on here, just was curious how your birds are growing out and looking now? I'm planning on sorting and culling some birds to sell as layers and started stock for some of the 4H kids around, but won't know until I get to it.

Hi Vicki, I kept two BC young males and six pullets. One male is from eggs we got from Ernie and the other is from Maryland. I have not checked the pullets to see where they came from. I still have the 1/2 wheaten and 1/2 BC two female and one young male . Will post a picture so the new people can see what causes a lot of the BC problems.

How about for the old people too :)

Pinkchick, I just read your post about the mountain lion attack. I am so sorry! What a horrible thing, and it sounds like your coop was well fortified, so that is a very strong predator. It makes the bobcat problem around here seem quite tame by comparison. One thing for sure, it will be back after having tasty chicken meals.

Sounds great Don. I'm hoping to get update shots of mine, but who knows. Right now it's day by day with entries coming in for the show here, I'm staying really busy. I held back one male and 4 pullets from Maryland.
