Ginger, I'm new on here as well. My roo could be a twin to yours. Beautiful birds aren't they?

If you want to breed purebred birds, separate them into another pen. Egg color is dependent on many different genes for dark brown. If your BCM are quality and lay a darker egg you will be able to tell them apart. In our experience crossing the Marans with other brown layers get you egg color somewhere in between, but not nearly as dark as the pure Marans. Get yourself a Marans egg color chart, as anything else is just guessing.I have a question regarding bcms I am interested in the breed. I presently have a community coop w 16 birds the coop is plenty big I am wondering if I introduced bcm roo and hens would I be able to distiguish there eggs(bcm roo x bcm hen) from say bcm roo X rri hen ? would crossing a bcm roo and another brown egg layer produce chocolate egg? Or should I build a second smaller coop for the roo and send the girls there. Thanks in advance for your input.
Printer colors vary widely. The official Marans charts are color matched at every printing and are consistent.you could Print this http://www.geocities.ws/erisso01/maranseggcolorchart.jpg
Ok. Somebody with an extra color chart please pm me. I can send a few $s to cover it and the postage. Im in southeast Alabama
Im not positive but I don't think that link is an accurate colored egg chart at least its not representing the dark browns as they should.
The picture below is a picture of my actual egg chart I bought from the marans club website and the colors are much much darker. Notice the eggs are much darker than the eggs in the link above. Of course pictures posted online show up different on everyones screens but this chart is what you would be looking for.
