Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Nice birds Freisian :thumbsup

Can't really see on the pics , but it's probably just as he gets his mature Saddle and Flight feathers coming in.
I would give him another month or so and re look at him.
Pictures to follow , the cockerel and two of the hens are looking fantastic, awkwardvwings you are right have sorted themselves out as he has broadened out and his saddle has developed

I am new to Maran breed. I purchased and hatched 3 splash Marans on Sept 1. I can only keep the pullets so I'm hopeful to have more girls. What are some characteristics to look for? Like my friend said with the Wyandotte mixes, the boys will have fast wattle development. Should I also look for the same in the Marans?

This one hatched Sept 1 and I think is a cockerel. Is that what you’d think?

Still awaiting eggs from the marans, one fresian started laying last week, hurrah!James the handsome lad is having the odd mad moment of thinking about getting me but only when I turn my back, but has ridden on top of my shoe and not done it again but calmed with a few home grow
Nice looking birds and tidy run:thumbsup
thanks Dave C, top part getting a polycarbonate roof at weekend as a covered straw yard for winter, I like a projectAlthough admittedly the whole thing was originally just meant to be the converted dog run with three hens and no outside run, sort of grown a bit
