Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I realize that this is thread pertaining to purebred Marans and . . . lol . . . I don't really belong here . . .
however I wanted to share with you a pic of one of my roos from my meat bird breeding project. I wanted to try a BCM in my program as I had read much good about them being used as meat birds in France.
I was lucky enought to obtain a (to me) gorgeous BCM roo from a breeder who had culled him due to a feather color issue (mossy?). The cross was a complete sucess in my book and this boy will be used as a breeder in next years program, he has several breeds in him but is 50% BCM; the BCM deffinately infused a more upright structure which I am just thrilled with. His sisters are all now laying nice HUGE chocolate eggs.

KTCL - That rooster is BEAUTIFUL! You're wrong though - I wouldn't say ANY member "doesn't belong here" - you can learn a lot about a breed by what they are throwing on a cross. I'm by NO means an expert on this, but I've seen many peeps talk about that before, so thank you for posting the picture - that looks like ONE BIG BOY! I think his coloring is very pretty!

I show Buff Brahma Bantams, several variety of d'Uccles, Light Brown Dutch and several Variety of Rock bantams. I will have my Chicken photo booth set up in a few days and will post some pictures.

In Marans I have BC, Wheaten, Cuckoo and a few white. I have large numbers of BC.

lol, I know you guys like feathered legs but I consider them a big pain in the meat pen! he is my favorite, but not the biggest by any means and they all have those feathered legs!

Yes, pics! I am with you geebs, all the good shows are so far away. Even if I did end up someday with show quality bird by the time I could drive to the show they would look terrible.

For anyone wanting to know what a Marans should look type wise take a look at the male. The only issue he has is the comb. I wish all my Marans had the type of this male. Sure would solve a ton of problems.
