Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Okay, so the decision is made. I'm keeping the Wheaten boy (sorry for who wanted him) and breeding him to both my best Wheaten girl and Blue Wheaten girl.

Here's a good looking Wheaten girl of mine - Don't have any pics of my Blue Wheaten though, as she's gone missing. (PLEASE just be broody in our vast pasture of hiding places, not eaten.) But the Blue Wheaten had a good substantial body like this, and with better color.

Here's some more. All these girls are 5 months old, and still growing out.

Pardon the muck, it suddenly has been raining a lot. Getting into the fall/winter season now.

All of the Wheatens as young ones had a lot of brown/dark brown chest feathering, but not the blue Wheaten. As they matured, I've got one Wheaten with a properly colored chest, one with a little much dark of color, and one who's on the good side of color.

Photos of eggs coming tomorrow night.

Illia, those girls are even more gorgeous, I'm feeling better and better about my order with Cree.

Just one warning note - The main male they use for their Blue Wheatens is as skinny as my own Blue wheaten, yet he's full grown, which explains why I got a lot of "skinny" type Marans from them. It is the reason I've decided to use my "tank sized" Wheaten cockerel and Blue Wheaten pullet to breed for a better Blue Wheaten.

Oh, and here's something comical. . . My gorgeous Wheaten boy, sulking in the rain.

Nice photos. I really like the wheatens. I notice on everyone's wheaten photos that the males seem to have a white underfluff/down. My wheaten males have it too. So is this trait different from the black copper marans roosters who are supposed to have dark underfluff? It sorta would make sense because the female wheatens have light coloring and thus underfluff is light so is it okay for the males to have the light underfluff as well? I haven't seen any photos of wheaten males with dark underfluff anywhere....

Here's another question for those of you who might know... do Blue Wheaten roosters have the cinnamon colored wing triangle like the regular Wheaten boys?
