Hi

There are golden salmons in the US and has been for a very long time. The only way it could have popped up is either from the Wade Jeane line or an out cross.

Bev

Hi Bev, I have mostly Wade Jeane BC and have never hatched anything but BC from them, I do get about 10% with the Brown breast though. This year out of over 600 I had three Mossy females. This year I bred a Presley male over my Jeane female and got about 100 males with either white in wing or tail section, needless to say the male is long gone.

Hi Don

It could have been that the gene was in one hen, the same with the wheaten and white gene. This is probably why some birds aren't carrying it. If you are getting a lot of red in the breast of your BC's there is something going on that you will want to try and breed out. It was good that you got another male to use, it will be quicker to breed out that way.

Hi

The plan is to try to get the black coppers accepted first followed by the wheaten, cuckoo and white Marans. The birds can be shown.

Good morning Bev. Seeing as how the French don't recognize the blue colors, is the MCC going to eventually get this variety approved with the APA? If so, how far down the road are we talking? Thanks.

So, What do you all think about my rant ? ?
What do you think of $26 an egg ? ?
Do you think I am just WRONG ? ?

Hi

The reason they are charging so much is because a lot of eggs don't hatch when they go through the post, they would rather you buy chicks. It's also time consuming packing eggs. I don't think you need to worry about egg color I haven't set an egg for a few years now that wasn't dark and I have seen the eggs that Greenfire Farm are setting. It's not in their interest to set eggs that are not a good color.

Bev

Thanks for answering, Bev...but...$19 per chick? Goodness!

I guess if the market will bear it - folks will pay it - and the price will remain high.

The market will bear it. I have sold pullet chicks, even day old ones for $50. Day old, or four months, whatever. I just guarantee pullet. If it crows, I'll trade them out for a pullet.
