I need to get a pic of my bator eggies, too. I'm hatching some for a friend, and she's requested a few pics of the eggies in the bator.

geebsie, did you post how old your girl is?

Whats your incubator? Is that a Hova bator?

Any suggestions for some one on a budget? I understand Marans eggs can be a bit tough to hatch?

Those eggs ah those eggs..

ON~

Shhhh.....2 of them are "el cheep-o" little giants. I am working on (modifying) my homemade incubator that I used all of last year with great success. I have always used the little giants and had great success with them. I just set them and forget them "ronco style" (as geebs would say) and add water as needed.
I think it was this last winter that we had a power outage for something like 17-19 hours and it was day 17 and I had my "home'mator" ( the homemade 'bator, named after that animated towtruck...'mater...can't remember the name of the film) and one of the little giants going and had 31 out of 39 hatch in the LG and around 9 out of 18 or 20 eggs hatch in the home'mator.

This year I am going to use home'mator as a the hatcher. When I built it, I built it in such a way that I could put dividers in and keep selected breeds or eggs completely seperate so there would never be a matter of confusing who is who upon hatch......especially when I have project pen eggs going and if I have breeding pen eggs going at the same time. I can divid it into as many different little compartments as needed. I wasn't going for a space saver when I designed it...it is just less than 4ft long x 20" deep x 14" tall. It works great and gives me plenty of time to get them marked before transfering to the brooder.

I found that my BCMs hatched so much better/easier and on their own when I used my $50 styrofoam Hovabator cause I could really get the humidity up there. For the past two years I've been using my Sportsman for incubating and hatching and find I have to peel them out of their shells. Can't seem to get the humidity high enough. I'm now thinking of using my old Hovabator for that last three days and hatch day.

I dont know how much you can tell from these pictures, but I was hoping that you would let me know what you all think of this splash hen. She has good eye color and shank feathering...

I was also wondering if this 10 week old looks like a pullet or a cockeral? Its starting to get little wattles, and its comb is pink, but I would really like it to be a pullet!

Wynette, I did buy a dozen eggs from someone in the north west early this year but do not remember who it was. I think it was in Oregon or Washington. I have one young male out of that
