WOW!!!

Now that is a Marans, he is beautiful. I fell in love with the blue coppers years ago and it took a few years to develop them but when you see a bird like that it makes it all worth while whoever went to all the trouble. Just look at that breast and the size of him. Very nice bird, the gold is an all over color which is good as well. I know the camera does some funny tricks with hackles and sometimes makes them lighter, I think this is one of those cases.

Pictures like this and the black copper pullet shown in an earlier post give me encouragement.

...lovely boy...
Read the Blue Copper standard on the previous page though.
I'm understanding this to say the bow should be the same color as
the hackles and saddle, and not the deeper more red color that
your guy is showing and that I had believed to be correct?

"Lustrous deep coppery orange" is the language used for bow, back, hackle and saddle
and blue for shoulders. The Black Copper description has Mahagony red for shoulders
and bows to match back.

Again, maybe I'm foggier than usual this morning

Thanks CP!

Here is a photo of Gnarles back, this is what they are referring to in the standard when they say the bow should match the back.

Wish I could have found a better and brighter photo to show you and he had just started his molt in this photo. I will get an updated one for you.

Hi Pink

How do the eggs of a Welsummer compare to a Marans egg?

Bev

Hi Bev! Thank you.

Here are a couple of photos of some Welsummer eggs and for comparison some Marans eggs.
Welsummer eggs should be a nice terra cotta color and never be as dark as that of a Marans egg.

Just found this awesome photo of his leg color and feathering. I love how the blue color just flows throughout the body right down to the toes.

Hi

I can see you have done some good breeding with that line, well done! I love that shade of blue as well. Needless to say, I have bred blue into all the lines I am working on.

Here are a couple of photos of my favorite little cockerel from GFF that shows his hackle color accurately.

He is on the left. The one on the right is the "udder brudder" I haven't posted photos of yet.

Ok...so now that I got a better photo showing his hackle color, what do you all think?

Thank very much Bev. I love them to pieces.

I can't get enough blue either. I'm hooked! Sooooooo, when you say you have bred blue into ALL of the lines you are working on......you have actually bred it into the Golden Salmons too?!?!?!? Please tell me that you have....ohhhhh please say yes! I think I would be in my version of "BLUE" HEAVEN" with those.

Hi

Thank you for posting the pictures, I wondered how dark they were compared with Marans eggs. Your Marans eggs are a nice color, I bet you are proud of them.

I think I just hatched my first copper splash chick
smile.png
It was from two of my birds (blue copper x blue copper) The parents are both very light blue coppers and this chick is way lighter than they were as chicks. She is kind of silvery colored but not pure white. Does anyone have any pics of thier copper splashes as young chicks?

Pink Nice Eggs!
Kathinmo: What a beautiful girl you have there!

Does anyone know the difference between roachback and plain rumpless (like an araucana) ? Which one would the actual tail (not tailfeathers) be missing from? I just checked my poor Guinea Girl (bcm hen) and I don't see an actual tail part so I suppose the tail bone itself is missing.....
