Hi, guys!

I thought I would post a few pics of the BCM chicks I got from Wynette this past Saturday, just for your enjoyment of things Marans.

In the pics, these guys are about 24-36 hours old.

Actually, we do want at least one rooster, so I'm

that there's one in the group (we have eight). Hopefully, we have some ladies, too.

By springtime they should be ready to gift us with some of those gorgeous chocolate-colored eggs.

I hope you get at least two then! I am finding, it is much harder to get a quality roo than it is a good hen. Always good to have a backup roo too!

Well, got Pip's pen built inside the coop today. It's Mom's first night without her boy in the house, so I'm holding my breath till the morning.

The big chooks were NOT pleased to see him in their coop! Lots of fence fighting on their part, poor Pip was just freaked until he found out it was wise to back AWAY from the fencing...sheesh. So, I pulled up a chair, and had Happy Hour (or two) with the entertainment in chookland. The big roo and pullets decided that Pip was going to steal their food. They started chowing down on their feeder like a starving Pit Bull with a case of Alpo!

I came up with the thought of throwing some treats to both sides and see what happens. Food is indeed the universal language, and after a few minutes, they were all eating and scratching right along side of Pip! So, all are closed up for the night. Hopefully, there shouldn't be any drama till morning! One down, 5 more to go!
