Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I love the lacing on that first pic girl (Bill's daughter). That is probably the color blue we should be shooting for (or maybe just a little lighter but definitely with the lacing)! Are those splash blues? Splash coppers have a copper colored splash right?

Help me out here flgarden.....I have never understood the term Splash Blue.......could you help out. All Splash birds are blue, they can present in different shades just as blue can, some looking almost white and others looking more blueish.
Those 2 splash girls are from copper parents. Bill's splash dtr. is the only one that I have that is showing a tiny bit of coppering randomly in the hackle. They other girl is a copper splash as well but does not show anything.

Thanks everyone!

What great names you guys have come up with......how will I ever choose.

Chooks~ Slate is everywhere in my house, I have found it goes very well with PINK decor!

I was thinking splash blue was light colored with blue 'splashes' and copper splash was light colored with copper 'splashes'. I am probably wrong LOL!!! I have seen pics both ways and was confused... So a copper splash has copper hackles as well? I have one splash chick from blue copper parents and am wondering what he/she will look like.

If the Splash is from two blue copper parents, she would have a double dose of the copper gene, so she/he will probably have a nice copper hackles on top of the Splash coloring. Pink, correct me if I'm wrong here!

I think I gotcha! Your talking about the difference in solid BBS and Copper BBS, right?

1 blue gene dilutes black to blue, 2 blue genes dilutes blue and all the way to what appears to be blueish tinted white. Blue being a leaky gene allows some darker blue and lighter blue feathers to pop up all over the body of the splash randomly taking on no pattern.
Splash Copper female birds will have flecks of copper throughout their bodies taking on no pattern and the males can take on a pattern just like that of the Black Copper and Blue Copper in the hackle, back, wing bow. The saddles will normally not be solid copper but flecked with copper and the rest of the body can have random flecks of copper anywhere.

Your splash baby should have the copper gene if it came from coppered parents but it may or may not show. Not all copper splash birds show copper.
