Nice fruit bowl, highlights the egg color and really shows them off!

Wish we were getting that many eggs-of course they wouldn't be all that color since I have only 1 Marans hen

Pink,

Love the bowl and the eggs!!

Start telling the chicks you're going to pull the plug if they don't start hatching! JK! I've had them go a full day+ from the time of rocking & pipping, hang in there. Of course, we WILL need pics of the babies!

My marans egg color chart got here yesterday. I am getting some very nice dark eggs. 6, 7 and 8's.

None that I can say are a 9 on the scale.

I had someone that wanted to buy 5 of my roosters. I had them all crated up and ready to go when she got unexpected company and now doesn't know when she will make the trip. Gotta go let them loose.

I have a dilemna. I want to raise some for egg production, and breed some for show. How the heck do you guys get rid of all your unwanted roosters? I can't seem to even give them away. I know a lot of people put them in the freezer, and I am not against that, but I have a problem there, too..... I can shoot a deer, field dress it, skin it and process it. I can clean fish or whatever, but when it comes to plucking a chicken I can hardly even think about it without getting gaggy. I would definitely peuk.

I think it goes back to when I was a kid. We would raise fryers and then butcher 50 to 100 at a time. I have tried to get over this, but so far haven't. My hubby says he will do it, but then he never does.

We just keep feeding and feeding them.

I think I need to develope a good means for getting rid of extras before I start hatching too many.

Skin the roosters instead of plucking them.

I am a wimp.. Just dislike killing anything.(Yet we try to eat meat that we harvest or grew) Chickens are especially hard for me too.. I also had bad experiences with the axe and butchering as a kid.. (Still have a decapitation phobia.) With that said, I have found you can not find home for all the extra cockerels.. (Some yes)..

So I use a killing cone.. (So much less traumatic for both me and the chicken).. I skin the birds and I grind the meat.. Use it as a replacement for ground turkey, or ground beef. (This way if the kids named them, we do not know who is who in the chicken tacos.).

fdnick ,

Type wise, I think he is very nice. More filling out to do, but he's young yet. I really like his back and tail set. The only thing that detracts from his looks for me is the belly/thigh fluff area, that should be black, yet his is very mossy looking. Other than that, I like him!

Dave, Me too! Although there is still a good chance for tonight they say. Hope they stay out of your area too, we so love those storms!
