Hmmm maybe Lector did eat his children and they aren't around to tell LOL! I love Annebelle she's so purty!

I have two bcms that made great mothers. They weren't great at hatching but really did try, most of one's babies didn't make it during the hatch so I gave part of the other's babies to her and it all worked out. One of my blue marans hens, Cocoa, is a superb mama she will even adopt older chicks (like 2 or 3 mos old) and mother them. I added 6 young blue marans pullets to my older hens and some were mean to them and after a few days Cocoa started mothering them and protecting them from the other hens. She let them snuggle with her at night on the floor of the coop too. She would put her wings over them.

Well I have been away nice to be back Hope all had a lovely Thanksgiving. Separated my roos from the girls this weekend and my beautiful Blue pullet is now my beautiful Blue Roo

I thought I saw some pointy hackles! Wish it was a pullet but now I need to get some good pics so you can tell me if "he" is worth breeding!

Is there a difference in hatching methods when hatching Marans eggs? I

Don't want to sound dumb but I don't want to have half baked chicks:( YIKES!

have "heard" there is so I thought I would ask some of the seasoned experienced people for the best advice.

As far as Hatching... BEV DAVIS lists the best way to hatch a few pages back... 20 or so... Humidity levels etc..

Well shucks... Gee thanks... They are not a finished project though... I am figuring some things out though... I can make this one again...I have the recipe...

I am going to hatch quite of few of this cross this year... .. She carries other genes you may not want to deal with..

We may have to trade eggies... I like your wheatons.. the blue one and the camera you use is amazing...

Well, I mean simply some of your stock that lay such dark eggs. They're certainly darker than any of my current layers. . .

Madelynbelle is up by you... She has Cree Wade stock.... that is about as good as it gets in my book.. that and Ruth... and Donna Gherke (so-cal).... They all have the good... Yours are nothing to complain about for sure... Nice avatar!!! I would try Madelynebelle... The darkest egg layers I have had are from that line... CREE from Fitz from Wade... pretty straight route. Let me know if you get any... I have been so tempted on her auctions.

The ones in my avatar are from the eggs I hatched when I first got Marans hatching eggs. . . One of those (or I think two) never hatched, (from Wynette - Best eggs ever though!) And the rest did, but I'm looking to get eggs a little darker.

From what I saw of Madelynbelle's ads, her eggs seemed quite pale. . . Maybe it was just the way she photographed them. I'll look into it. I got a fraction of my BBS Ameraucanas from her.
