Hmmm maybe Lector did eat his children and they aren't around to tell LOL! I love Annebelle she's so purty!
I have two bcms that made great mothers. They weren't great at hatching but really did try, most of one's babies didn't make it during the hatch so I gave part of the other's babies to her and it all worked out. One of my blue marans hens, Cocoa, is a superb mama she will even adopt older chicks (like 2 or 3 mos old) and mother them. I added 6 young blue marans pullets to my older hens and some were mean to them and after a few days Cocoa started mothering them and protecting them from the other hens. She let them snuggle with her at night on the floor of the coop too. She would put her wings over them.
