Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

This was my incubator a couple of weeks ago. The dark eggs #8 & #9 are from Fitz farm

Ok, sorry I took so long getting back, but here's the photo shoot of my new baby 'BCM'

Here's one of the 2 possible proud papas (Oops, looks like they're both kinda in this pic; this pic is old, I need to update!)

I don't have a pic of mama, I'll have to catch her on the nest to see if she's the feather-legged mossy one or the non-feather-legged mossy one. Baby is not feather legged, so I'm thinking daddy is my non-feather-legged roo and mama is my non-feather-legged girl.

So is it wheaten?

ya gotta love Fitz farm don't cha... I hope you had a great hatch.. I will have to go back and reread..I am mutitasking... Beautiful pictures...

Hmmm he looks almost wheaten or even possibly very light golden cuckoo due to the spot on his head. Here is a pic of a wheaten baby (right) and a very light golden cuckoo male (on the left) as chicks.

flgardengirl..that is not cuckoo...nope that is likely a wheaton/wildtype... Golden Salmon as adult...(probably carrying wheaton)

I had 4 babies hatch. I had to leave town for a family emergency and missed the end of the hatch and my chicken sitter unplugged the bator at day 22. When I got home and opened the egg there were 3 more fully formed - Beth Fitzgerald said that Dave leaves them in longer because they can sometimes take longer to hatch...so I would have had 3 more...sad

Currently I have 8 viable eggs in the bator going into to lockdown on Saturday!! I'll leave them in longer

He is an adult now and looks golden cuckoo lol. I have a pic of him as a juvie. I need to get more recent pics. He is the same as this one pretty much now except bigger and his barring got much more defined and he has tail feathers now lol. He kinda fooled me for a while I wasn't sure what he was but knew he came from golden cuckoos. The breeder told me that his father was a light version as well.
Here he is as a adolescent
