Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Are your OEGB roos hatchery stock? If so, they could be mixed somewhere along the line with a yellow legged bird and the yellow isn't showing in the OEGs but might in the offspring.....

It can't be a cochin cross since A) it has no feathered legs; and B) the cochins are girls. I've never seen a cochin bantam lay a full-sized dark brown egg.

The pic of the roos was taken when they were around 4 1/2 months old. I'll try to get new pics of them today.

ETA: This is Bev's site, the wheaten chicks on this page have yellow legs. http://www.bevsmarans.com/wheaten.htm

ETA
again: Every pic I've come across on google showing wheaten marans chicks show chicks with yellow legs, so I'm going to assume that's what it is.

) roos in that pen are a black and 2 splash...no way would I get yellow chicks from those!

I could almost testify that my Whetens have yellow-looking legs as peeps and grow to white. Not 110% sure.

pinkish white, that's it. As adults. But as peeps I remember a sort of yellow.
