Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Debbi thanks. Yeah i let them rest for 24 hours, point down in an egg carton. I've ordered 3dozon from the east coast (seems to be the most breeders out there) and it was 3 orders of a dozon from 3 different people, none broken... and I only had 1 hatch from the whole deal. I ordered the 2 dozon I mentioned from Kansas just 1 state away and that's where I had the three hatch... and later 2 from another dozon (but 1 died). So I have 3 pullets (1 mossy, 1 too much melenomer? and 1 beauty queen) and 1 cockrel. So I'm working with what I've got... but watchin the thread and absorbing as much as I can.
One of these day's I'll get some pics of the birds. I really like my roo even though tail sets are too high on all of them.

Okay I finally found my camera charger and got a chance to get these uploaded. I really either need to get more pic space or learn how to do the photobucket thingy on here lol. It keeps saying I reached my limit then I have to delete stuff grrr.
These 3 big brown eggs are from the first of my 5 bayhorsebonnie pullets that started laying 3 days ago. Her egg is as big as the leghorn egg next to them lol.
The little egg in front is from one of my blue copper pullets first egg from yesterday. Haven't gotten one from her today yet.

These are from 2 of my solid blue marans hens. The big speckled ones are from Cocoa, she is a big fat girl too. The long skinnier eggs come from Bella and she is a tiny spritely little thing LOL! Kinda funny how their eggs match thier body types.

You guys are killing me with the superdark eggs. Next year. . . . Next year. . .

I'm hoping I can get more coppering in my birds, I would hope that should darken the eggs.

Thanks Debbi! I have to thank Wynette, for having such nice birds and going out of her way, to make sure I got the eggs safe and sound! THANK YOU WYNETTE!!!!!! Now I have to drag my butt to work, don't have too much fun without me!

Tannis! Oh, I'm so excited your girls are laying - they look nice! THey will often darken up a bit more a few weeks after they start laying - I'm so happy that you are pleased!!!

flgardengirl - um.....

on those eggies! It's all I can muster! Now...must.....pick.....jaw.....up.....off....keyboard....

Thank you. I can't take credit for my BHB girl's eggs I am so pleased with them though. I have one mossy girl in the bunch who isn't laying yet. I can't wait to see what she lays.
My blue marans are from peachick so she gets credit for them. I believe she originally developed her blues and blue coppers from black coppers so that is why I have good egg color on the solid blues (no coppering).
I crossed my blue coppers back to my black copper roo from a dark egg and the eggs from these babies are darker than my original blue coppers so I am happy about that.
This is the egg that the roo hatched from that I crossed my blue copper girls to for my f1s. He is a little light in the hackles and not a perfect roo but good for egg color. He was from pasofinofarms.

I love those two eggs on the end. Awesome!

Stickers what cute little babies!!

ETA: Math ace one problem... they are not fertile LOL!! I have everyone separted after my last hatch and all the girls in the layer pen with only a bantam phx roo to keep them company, well some might be fertile from him but he seems to like the phx hen, the RIRs, the brahmas, and the sexlinks mainly. I did it a while ago to give the girls a break because so many were looking rough and missing back feathers. I am planning to make some breeding pens and decide who to put with who in the spring (about Feb. here anyways lol) Right now I have 3 bachelor pens and need to thin them out and figure who to use and who goes to freezer camp etc. I just keep finding excuses not to do it.
