Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

What were you expecting from this hatch? You can breed a BC or a Silver Birchen to Cuckoo hens and get Black sex links so the black babies would be pullets....if you were just wanting dark egg layers that would be cool. If you were thinking breeding stock well I think you have quite a project and you should have fun with the colors and learn many things. I'm keeping mine all separated only trying to get feathered shanks on my Cuckoos. Still sometimes off colors are neat and you can work with them I think it's hard enough to get the right type without having to cull for off colors but that is me. I do have a split Birchen who is pretty and I've thought about crossing him with my hatchery girls who lay dark eggs for sex links many people can't have roos and then they would know right away what they have .....You have some cute babies and it will be fun seeing what colors they turn out to be

Thank you, i think they are adorable little fluff balls too! This was a group of regular cuckoo's with some golds. i am learning allot from this hatch as these are my first marans. I am ultimately looking for some dark layers, going to enter their eggs in the fair next year.

I noticed that you and I are also both on PHLMB!!

Oh my, I've got baaaad little blue chicklets!! Day 21, still no pipping, peeping, or scratching. Still some rocking going on, maybe they are settling down to get to pipping?? Sure hope I don't have to wait 27 days like Pink did!!!

They are not coming out till santa comes down the chimney. They heard about the milk and cookies, and are holding out for xmas eve.

uh ya... (we all looked)... SOOO CUTE!!!! ... To save time this year due to the economic downturn:... The Stork and Santa teamed up to save on fuel...

I bet that expectant couple is really wondering what to do with the "Flavor-Wave" table top grill... ha ha....
