Sorry for you both. Maybe I should have my husband have the generator standing by, but we rarely have an outage & I am NOT a worrier by nature.
Good luck with the rest Geebs

We NEVER have an outage unless a HURRICANE is involved! Yet, in November on Day 22 / 23, I lost power for 8 plus hours!

If it can go wrong, then it will go wrong at the worst possible time in a hatch . . ..

Sorry again Geebs - - - you get the award for the worse case scenario AND you still had 13 chicks survive

THanks....all!!! You guys and gals are FAB..... Well I lost a few more overnight but there is still the token wheaton.... I am collecting... DRAT!!! I thought I was going to hatch everything I needed in one schwoop... I guess that wouldn't have given me a chance to try out the new Brinsea now would it.. (it is only a 10 so don't get too excited)... I will likely hatch from specific pairs for a while... Since I had to do a Rescue hatch... my Willhe and Charlie chicks are now mixed up....No biggie except I can keep no roosters. I will have to hatch for that!!! Don't want to accidently add what I think is a charlie baby and end up with a pack of wheaties.... (I like wheaties just not unexpectedly)

I have somewhere between 10 and 12... I quit counting and the pips didn't make it... One the good note... I still have a bator running two weeks out.... (hatching vibes needed here).... The temp of the bator could drop quite a bit but since they were intact I think they stand a better chance.

Mountain Mel
.... So sorry about your TURKEY!!! that is ssssaaaadd!.... You can cry on my shoulder.. I am done crying... your turn!!

I have 10 after all the ordeal... some of them were still wet when I retrieved them... I bumped around in the dark and they cried for quite a while I guess they were just plum wore out... The ten left are eating and drinking and downright fiesty... It is funny... It looks like I lost more roos then hens by a real margin... They were much bigger too.... Boys are sissies perhaps???

Hi all...I started at the beginning of this thread and now am on page 26! Whew, shat a lot to learn. I am starting some cuckoo marans and so far have not read too much about them...are they not so desirable as the black copper? Does anyone have some that I can compare mine to? Also could you direct me to the pages? 909 is a whole bunch to go through!!! TIA!
Terri O--who might have found the project she was looking for!

Terri, I too am new to this site. It's pretty kewl tho....
I have Cuckoo Marans at present and I love em'. The biggest difference I can tell so far between the different Maran breeds is the plumage and darkness of egg color. Oh - and that some are feather-legged and some are not. There are probably many other differences that I haven't noticed yet but like I said, I'm pretty new to this whole ball-game.
I feel like I am the luckiest person here because I live about 5 miles from "pinkchick" and I can glean information and assistance from her. I can't help ya on navigating through the previous 90? pages...I think it is a "search & find" operation.
Anyway, welcome.

You can laugh if you want but I've seen it happen countless times.

That's very interesting..................... I keep all my roos separated mostly unless they were hatch mates & have always been together. No fighting so far. Although the day a couple of the Delawares snuck out into the open pen while I was feeding was very interesting. It was the first time I saw my BCM rush to claim his ground.

They are all hatchmates and grew up together even though they are from separate sources. They were just acting stupid. Today they aren't bothering the Wheaten Marans roo that they were picking on first. I tried putting the BCM roo back in and they all attacked him so had to take him out again.

Debbi here are the Key West pics you wanted to see. Its a little sunnier today so went out this morning and got them. One is of the inside of thier coop and you can see the little egg in the right nestbox.
Key W. Roo (none of them have names yet lol) I just love this little guy!!

3 KW Hens. The wheaten looking one bending down is the one that laid the egg.
