I see you are in NE GA? There is another place that has Marans south of Atlanta, you might get a better deal and I have heard people rave about them. RedRoofHens.com
I bought some from a lady in N. GA and they weren't a very healthy bunch. Just gotta be sure.

I hatched out a hen from some eggs I got from you year or so ago and she lays nice dark eggs like those

I remember you! I'm glad she's doing good for you.

They are 16-18 months old, the eggs are pretty dark. He doesn't know what line they are and they came from two different people. There is 12 hens, 3 of those are blue with clean legs and there is two roosters. So I guess there's 14 I would have to take. It's all or none with these.

Pretty risky without knowing what they lay... Hmmm... The question is can you turn over the ones you don't want and are they really worth it??? Got any pix??? Bloodline is super important to me... I would rather spend more money on something that I can guarantee... So hatching is my bag... I like Fitzgerald's eggs and also Mydarkeggs.com or Nivtup from here has great wheatons I understand... If you are a Davis person that likes the blues... Pink has what will turn your head.. I guess it depends on what he has.. If they are a Jesse bryant flock... yep I would jump in... there are too many mutt stocks out there...buyer beware... run them by us here on BYC and we will put him through the paces for ya!!!!

I would have no luck selling the ones I don't want. I finally sold the blues that I posted pics of, managed to get half what I paid for them. They are nice but I didn't take any pics, its about an hour drive back over there. I'll probably just have to pass.

Ya... sounds wise...You can hatch a mess of eggs from a guaranteed source and you will know the egg color of the best male... That is a SUPER important point... Knowing the egg color of the male... It is the cornerstone of the flock so it has to be right in order to proliferate in the flock!!

geebs- I don't always comment, but I do a lot of lurking and reading, and it seems like your advice is always "right on." Just wanted to let you know I appreciate what I have learned from you... even if I don't always comment on the thread.

Jim~ I don't care for the fact that you would have to purchase all of them or none, just me, but I would walk solely on this premise.

16-18 months old,

$25.00 each for birds that are 16-18 months old......IMO, this is only a good price for the 16 mos. old birds and if they lay a nice egg. I would never pay $25 for an 18 mos old bird or older.

Please remember these are only my opinions.

Good morning Pink.... Did I beat ya awake???? Can't find my rooster... (forgot to put him in... I am coming down with something).... probably stupid... Now I am going to worry till he shows up... I hate it when I come down with stupid... He hides under the house usually so I am fairly sure he is fine...but I will still be worrying until he is on the porch begging. No snow here...you Pink? Mel???

Thank you for the kind words Mel, it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday and getting to know you. Sorry if I threw tons of info at you all at once, once I get started talking about chickens and breeding it's very hard for me to stop and I forget to notice the bewilderment that I have sometimes caused. I'm excited to have another Marans fancier so close to learn with, and believe you me, I am still learning, everyday right along with everyone else, if it weren't for the FABULOUS folks here on BYC and over on the Marans Chicken Club, I would be lost. You've got heart and tons of excitement to get started with what I consider a very special breed of birds, I could see that yesterday and I can't wait to share them with you.
