No this works well. You put the drops on the vent opening and it gets kinda "sucked up". I know that sounds graphic but true...

Maybe it's just me, but that sounds like a lot of work and a tad on the

side. I also wonder, if you have really dark eggs, would the color even show up or show true??

While we are in that area, I have a question. How in the world do you AI a chicken??? More specifically, how do you collect the little soldiers from the roos?? I've read that some breeds, like the rumpless breeds, need to be AI'd, so I've been wondering ever since. Anyone here ever do it?

This is a great Idea, it would tell me not just who lays what egg but, who is laying.... period! I am going to try this with my non-marans.

April/aceschix, it was nice to visit with you Saturday. I had such fun talking (face to face) chickens, with someone who gets it. I posted a photo of the babies I got from you a few pages back. The 2 splash babies are very energetic, and the first to push forward to grab treats. Thanks for the heathy little peeps!

Ok, I have a question. I just went out to let some of my hens out of their stall to run around on the lawn and decided to check on the other pens while I was out there. I found a little pullet I have that looks to have had her back/side sliced by one of the cockerel's spurs (he is a hulking giant of a splash that just keeps growing and growing). I've never had this happen before. How exactly do you treat it? I guess I was wondering if I should somehow wrap it or? Its not too deep, looks like it sliced the skin cleanly, but its just under the wing so I'm sure it is uncomfortable.

Guess this is just yet another sign to get birds moved out of winter pens to their breeding pens for the season. Yesterday it hit almost 70 here...saw a couple bees, heard song birds and this morning I found a caterpillar(monarch) crawling on my watering can.

haha indeed I am Mel...I was starting to get cabin fever pretty bad..never a good thing for me. Hopefully the rain and snow take it easy on you. Did I read right that you are from Castle Rock, WA? I've been there a couple of time visiting friends of mine from college. Its a beautiful area up there.

I know this is a Marans thread and we just got a trio yesterday of BCM that are great but I wanted to say how happy you made me with your comments on the bees and caterpillars.

We just got finished shovelling off our roof because the snow is so deep and heavy here in Syracuse NY.

We are expectiong more this evening. I cant wait for signs of spring here.
