beautiful!!! I have 18 splash marans eggs and 5 blue from Texas in my bator now along with a few of my own.
but...one can never have too many splash, no?
Nope.....can never have too many Splash. Splash to me is a very important universal tool when breeding for blues.
But.....I must admit, I have been eyeballing Birchens (Blue of course) for sometime now, along with Blue Silver Salmons and since the Silver Salmons are a ways from being ready to share (though Ms. Bev reports egg color is great!!!!
) so until I get my hands on the Silver Salmon's...I will be on the hunt for Blue Birchens.
My happily ever after story......will be me surrounded by Blue Copper Marans, Blue Birchen Marans and Blue Silver Salmon Marans. Oh Yea! Baby! That's my Blue Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha...sounds like we have a pretty similar wish list. I'm addicted to the blues too, can't help it really
Right now it feels more like I'm surrounded by projects more than anything else.
But, I keep plugging away and am happy with the prospects I'm seeing in the chicks I hatched out about 2 weeks ago. Mostly roos of course its starting to look like...which reminds me...do you ever start sexing chicks by the noise they make? The roos do a trilling kind of noise when picked up...that's how we got a rough idea of what we were dealing with when I was growing up. Its not 100%, but the Marans seem to be pretty easy to tell on that way for the roos, they have a much bigger voice than little bantam chicks hahaha
Got another question for you...do you know what they crossed to develop the silver salmons and the blue silver salmons? Those projects girls I posted a couple pics of a couple weeks back need a boy to work with them...and I am gonna try them on my blue birchen boy, but I'm trying to come up with a back up plan.
Anyways, got those eggs of Helen Byers cookin in the bator and prospects are looking good. I've got 5 of the black americaunas, 5 blue marans, and 18 splash marans eggs that are looking to be developing. A few of them are very dark, but it looks like there are definite signs of developing. Now its fingers crossed and putting them in lockdown Monday..
