Thanks for posting this info!! I've got some eggs coming this next week and I think I'm gonna try them! They aren't Marans, so I'll be able to candle them easily to test the theory. How long did you leave them stationary before you put them into the turners? 10 days seems like a long time to me, but then again, I've never tried it. Here's to hoping for some good results with this!!

You'll have to keep us informed how yours is developing through the hatch and what hatches!

Go figure . . . she is my ONLY Black copper marans. I have a few Blue Copper marans, but she is my ONLY Black Copper marans. . . So, I guess it is up to the Blues to produce some Black Copper Marans pullets for me. I started collecting their eggs a couple of days ago. I will throw them in the incubator in a few days and we will see if I FINALLY get some black copper marans pullets.

Welcome to the world of Real Estate, always a challenge, Chickens, even Marans are MUCH easier to work with and pleasurable to boot!

Lovely! They look a bit like some of the girls I've got! I wonder if they are a first generation cross between a blue birchen and a cuckoo. Or I guess it could be possible, although I'm not 100% confident about the genetics of this idea- I know that some cuckoo hens will have a more pronounced coloring in their neck. I read somewhere it has to do with crossing somewhere in the line with birchens. So, I wonder if it is possible it was a cuckoo carrying birchen genes crossed with a blue...and so there are a couple possible outcomes. Those more pronounced in birchen markings, more blue, those more cuckoo and etc? Just pondering out loud I suppose...

Pinkchick has 20 that she is hatching for me due on March 15th...I'm saying that this hatch will have the LOWEST percentage of Roos!

haha...way too funny!!!

This is my first horribly lopsided hatch...I've had maybe 40% pullets, but I honestly think that's about the worst, until now...hahahha

...I'm gonna go ahead and blame it on the winter season since its also the earliest hatch I've ever done since my first hatches when I was a kid. At least I'm really, really hoping so. The majority of the birds I'm hatching from are also the same ones I collected from last year when I had my pullet landslide season. I had a 95% hatch at one point for pullets. It was crazy! Anyways...I truly hope for both our sakes that this trend swiftly turns around we both lose this contest.
