This is what you get Mel for going so long without a Marans rooster....LOL....LOL

Knowing the quality of the stock (birds) I will be getting, I have no problem raising a buch of Roos and keeping the best of the best for my own breeding stock. My goal is to have quality Blue Copper Marans, Black Copper Marans, Blue Jersey Giants, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. To get good birds I'm going to have to raise a lot, cull heavy, and BBQ often! Am I correct in thinking this way?

Sounds like you have the concept down Mel................, but as you well know you have a great advantage over many of us............LOL

Just got my third egg from a BCM pullet I've been waiting on for a long while. I thought I'd share...her color keeps getting better everyday, but the egg itself is so ruby red....and is much darker than in the picture. I'm still learning the best lighting for taking photos of them. This is indirect natural light and against the chart it is about a 7 when I compare it. I just can't get over the ruby color

(I took this photo pre cleanup. I didn't want to lose any of the richness of the color.)

Here is my 9 week old Wheaten Marans roo "Rey"

I hatched him from Illias egg.

I think he's pretty, just hasn't got many tail feathers yet.. but he is HUGE and has feathers on his feet.

Hello all of you Marans fans. I just wanted to post a couple better photos of the Blue Copper egg that I got and hatched from Kim (Pinkchick). My hatch is finally out of the bator and all dried off so I took some photos and thought I would share them. I was told by Kim that this is the first time her Blue Copper Charmin has actually had a successful hatched egg. This chick is very healthy and much bigger and stronger than the others I hatched at the same time.

Well, I need to see if my 4th attempt at hatching works. So far, we've set about 40 eggs in two 'bators, 23 due today and the rest in 2 weeks or so. Of the 23 today, 3 are pipping and today is day 21. So if my hatch attempts are dismal again, I won't try ordering up any eggs.
