Hahaa...what? Me? an 'addict'?

I do love spring and all the babies! I also love seeing happy customers when they meet their younguns for the first time. I also really love the prospects of getting some quality birds grown out for my breeding programs and providing food for my family from the culls. I guess I love the whole process really. I love simplicity and finding joy in it.

OK.... I have a few minute to catch up, so starting where I left off. lol

Yep, I also love Spring and all the new babies. Have mixed emotions this Spring because I will miss my cows, goats, sheep, ducks, and turkeys now more than ever. Especially the sheep and goat babies. Those were always the most fun. I have to admit though..... these Marans chicks are just soooo cute!!! I heard DH this morning in front of the bator saying, "Hi my little babies. Daddy's here."

He thought I was sleeping and didn't hear.

Haha...that's too funny....another addict in the works over there with that hubby of yours?

I totally can relate to having mixed feelings about spring...would be hard really to know how to try to fill in that missing part of life, ya know?
Yikes...gotta leave for work...I'll be back later to see how everyone is doing!

Thanks Debbi. I think I'll let DH handle this one just in case we get the worse scenario. I really don't have the heart. And please don't laugh and say I'm the worst farmer ever. I already know this. I can't even watch my two legged kids get shots, stitches (I have one son who's purpose in life is to get hurt), blood drawn, etc.... DH always handles all of this for me. Don't get me wrong, I can cook our culls and steers with no problem knowing we raised them right and gave them a good life. I just can't watch the other part. That's DH part of all of this.

It's not as bad as all that. Since it's probably all dry, yet still cheeping and struggling, it will be like SLOWLY peeling a hard boiled egg. Little tiny piece at a time. Everything in that egg should be very dry, and that membrane is very tough! I had a hard time getting it off of one of mine yesterday, no way the chick could've!

That's what I'm doing from now on. Stubborn little things want to be born in their time, not ours! This one rocking now is day 24, and was the one with the crush/dent in the pointy end that I taped with Scotch tape!

And a blue as a first baby too! yay!
I'll tell you a secret....the excitement and joy over a new set of eggs ready to hatch has never worn off for me....

Maybe I'm weird, but I am in awe every single time

I love your updates, keep'em coming!

Yeppers! I'm with you guys. Every new batch of eggs gets the same excitement as my first.

Well now that I think of it, I have to say except for my first batch of Turkeys. I didn't know they went after shiny things and was freaking out at them trying to peck at each others eyes. I was in tears. That was really scary until someone schooled me on baby turkeys.

jl~

If it were me I would help that chick out. Chances are since it has been pipped since Saturday that it is very tired at this point and if you are more comfortable waiting for DH to help that is totally cool. I would however take the other chicks out that have hatched if they are still in the 'bator. How's your humidity holding?

eta: sorry if my mumble is jumbled today....I have other things on my mind that are not such happy thoughts, but I do have a pip a day early in the 'bator!

Thanks. DH just got home now, so I will have him start in on the chick. The humidity has been pretty stable at 74%.

Edited to state: Woohoo on your early pipper!

Debbi~ I set these eggs just a couple days after you set yours and now we have chicks hatching together.
