Best I can do is post a photo of all 3 eggs together for you.

As far as temperments....the Barnevelders are friendlier than the Marans.

and they are WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY friendlier than the Wellies. Wellies are not snuggly birds like the Marans and Barnevelders are. They are more independent but they are socialable birds, they just do not care for being picked up to often like I can with the other 2 breeds.
As far as egg color consistency....The Wellies have it hands down. The Marans are better layers than the Wellies when they are in their groove, but if they don't have their groove on the Wellies beat them in this dept too (except during molt).

Barnevelder eggs that I just got from Farmer Johan. They are darker than the ones that I got from him last year and darker than the Barnie eggs from my one and only Johan girl that I have now, so you can see how they vary in colors too.

All 3 together. Wellies in the very back of the photo, Barnies in the middle and of course you know what the others are.

Debbi~ I'm glad they are doing okay...I can SO not wait for a little sun and shine vs. this gray dreary wet.

We have a generator but LOL we have never used it.

Love the coffee can idea!

Yes, those coffee cans have come in very handy for all types of uses. As timid as these chicks are, they didn't bat an eye when I put the hot cans in there! Went to check on them every so often, and they were all sitting in a circle around the cans, with their butts right up against them.

Went out there this morning to check/feed them, and of course one of the little devils was doing that "stretched out laying position", which always freaks me out when I first see it!

Evidently, I must gasp at the sight of it, and they immediately jump up and ran for the corner of the brooder.

Isn't amazing how dead they can look......................!!!!!!!!!!!! I no longer freak but I sure did for awhile until I got used to it.......LOL I can see my 2 brooders through my big diningroom window that goes out to my glassed in front porch where I keep the incubator & the babies until they are a few weeks old. It is so amazing to watch them as I walk through the house or sit and have dinner. This whole experience has been unbelievable. Now if the dang rain would stop so I could enjoy going outside to the others that would be nice..!!!!!!!!

I really LOVE those spotted eggs!! I will not go look at that breed, I will not go look at that breed, I will not ..... lol

We have a generator that we only used for a couple weeks after being flooded by H. Rita in Louisiana. At least FEMA reimbursed us for it. I figured we would use it again but we never have.

btw the kw chickens now have 17 babies between the two of them!!!

Five points in the comb, both sexes, good luck!

White feathers, (body, wings, tail) are a DQ in adult birds. Juveniles may have many, but should molt them out with the juvie molt. If they haven't molted them by the first adult molt, cull. Proposed SOP here:

Nice photos Debbi! You must be proud of your babies. FireTigeris They are supposed to have five pionts for their comb. The white in the wing feathers is OK until their first molt.
