Math Ace~ If you look at the 3rd photo he does have copper in all the appropriate places but he is what I would consider a dark or over melanized bird. I would try him out over some girls that were overly red if I had any. I like his overall bulk and confirmation very much. I can't really see the pullets well enough to pass along any critiques.

I agree with Pink. I think Lisa was referring more to the "balance" of the hackle/saddle color, rather than a lack of it? I really like the "type" of this roo! Nice, chunky, low rider!!

As Pink said, he won't help with coloring up the girl's hackle color, but my two main roos are darker even than yours, and I'm using then so I can build upon their type and temperament! I can get my color later!

1st - - HOW do you GET 500 eggs? You wait for the chickens to give them to you!
lol.png

2nd - - WHERE do you put them all once they hatch ? In a brooder.

(Sorry....just couldn't help myself, the little smarty pants in me just got out of control for a minute...

Lisa, I still have 648 eggs in my incubators. I set at least one incubator each week 216 eggs. At this time only marans and a few Wellies.

I have several of the brooder box with the GQF heaters in them. I have grow off brooders for them as they grow. Anyone building the brooder box's should think about the GQF heaters. Don

I will try and do this without coming accross as being Rude. First the male does not have a back, too short, the saddle area is higher that the shoulder, tail way too low. With the very short legs I would question if they are pure BC Marans. The actual back looks like it is lower in the middle. Don

PINK - - - Do you remember this hatch?

The three Black / blue coppers are mine AND I can already tell two of them are cockerels

Yes, I know these chicks are less than 3 weeks old BUT look at this guy

This pic is BLURRY, but it does show that the comb AND wattle are already turning PINK, not only are they LARGE ( for the age) but pink too!

SORRY GUYS, I lack some of those communication skills . .. . I was referring to the balance. Yes, I see he does have copper, BUT as much as he has in the hackles he should have in the saddles so that there is a balanced look INSTEAD of the copper becoming so dark at the rump that is almost black. . ..

Sorry for any confusion I caused on this.

I think you are a little late on this suggestion - - - I just finished my 3rd brooder and no one has ever mentioned a GCF heater. . .

I guess I'll be doing some research later today

My fingers crossed for you to get fat Frodo babies! Good luck, I suppose down your way you get too much ambient humidity... up here I have to worry about too little so I keep the vents shut.
