I din't let any of mine free range out here until they were big. Too many hawks! My babies go outside, but they are in a covered pen within the main run. They don't get to free range here until at least 6 months old. Those tiny targets are just too tempting for the hawks.

The silver is not indicitive of gender....however if the silver starts coming in on the wing bow area and saddle area....then you have a cockerel. Pullets will only have the silver in the hackle area. This is the same with the Black Copper, Blue Copper variety as well. Congrats on your babies......we would love to see photos when you have the time.

Can't help with the olive eggers, but the Blue Birchen pullets should have the silver hackles like the roo. The Birchens are basically a Black or Blue Copper with the copper replaced with silver. Post some pics, we love pics here!

Well it looks like the 2 wheaten chicks I keep that hatched monday may be girls

there wing feathers are coming in pretty good and so far no signs of dark feathers at the end. I just got 2 sets of shipped eggs yesterday and let then sit all night and put them in the incubator this morning will wait a few more days before i start turning them. I got blue coppers and black copper and a few more RP turkey eggs. I believe I should get some more black coppers in the mail today from another person. I have my eye on a few auctions for some more blues and some more wheaton hopeing to have a good mixture from at least 3 diffrent breeder of each kind.

Im so hoping for some decent hatchs from these shipped eggs, This is my first attempt with shipped eggs since last year but have learned allot on how to deal with them so hopeing for better results.

Congrats! Too Cute!

Let's give them a few more days because right now I would be inclined to say they are both cockerels.

I'm seriously hoping I am very wrong.

That would be a bummer but need both so owell. I know they need more time. Still cute either way only time will tell if they mak the cut or not.

Those are such cute babies, loprettaerin.
Looking at them makes me want more Marans...

Here is my Blue Copper Marans, Blue, and her Black Copper Marans friend, Frodo. Frodo is going to be returned in a week or so, so Blue's going to be alone. My Black Copper pullet died suddenly on Monday and now I'm worried about how Blue's going to feel when Frodo leaves. My Red Stars are HUGE and mean, so I've separated them until Blue gets to about the same size....Hopefully bigger!!
