I have an Olive Egger Roo that is just starting to crow and sounds the same way. I'm thinking (hoping) that Pinkchick will take him back, as I only want to keep one Marans Roo. He is a unique bird - Splash with coppery patches and a red, fleshy face & neck that looks just like a Shamos Roo...

I bet if you see those olive eggs you wouldn't want to give him back?

He sounds like a beauty!

She's a cutie! Love those plants. Am I seeing a Datura on the left? Love them! I have some purple seeds somewhere I need to plant. Do the chickens bother them at all? The "brugmansia", is it the same thing as "Bougainvillas (sp?)"? We had a huge plant around the front porch when we lived in CA. That bright fushia color always made me smile. Going to be a nice day here today, so will pot up some pretty Petunias I bought yesterday.

The plant on the left is Brugmansia (white with the triple bloom) it is related to Datura but grows into a tree-like shrub and can be overwintered dormant in the basement or wherever when it freezes. The blooms on Brugmansia (aka Angel's Trumpets) point down and daturas point up (hence the nickname Devil's Trumpets). The bougainvillea is the bright pink one and I threw that bluish bloom (hibiscus) on there because it got knocked off the plant and kinda matched her feathers LOL! The chickens never have tried to eat the brugmansia flowers or leaves etc. and I have tons of them. They do scratch around at the bottom and dirt bathe. I keep the seeds picked up just in case though. I think they have a bitter nasty taste or something. I know someone who has goats and thier goats wouldn't even eat them.

Hi All!

Mel~ I will take him back...I just can't do it this weekend..unless you leave him crated somewhere for me so I don't have to catch him. I have a carrier that I keep in the back of my truck instances just like this.....just incase I accidentally find a chicken that I need to take home.

Ivy~ I use pencil for the most part but from time to time I will use non-toxic washable crayola markers. The markers work great except if the eggs are going under a broody. Once I found that the washable marker will smudge off under a broody....I lifted a gal up to take a peek and saw her nice bare chest kinda purplish.....then it dawned on me that I had used the purple marker on the eggs

, BUT, in the incubator the marker works just fine.

Cadeau~
I agree with Don about time frame of when you should be seeing the size, shoulder width and lengths of back that you asking about. The narrow birds will easy to spot out.....because they are just that...narrow from the shoulders all the way to the tail. When you see a nice large, wide bird you will know.

I can't wait to see the eggs from these girls.....they are second generation crossed back to Bill for increased darker olive eggs. I figured that crossing them back to their dad one more time couldn't hurt.

Debbi~

My little dark blue Bill Jr has just started crowing at 4 mos. of age. DH probably loves the fact that the grow out pen he is currently living in is only 20ft from our bedroom window.

Well, I learn something new every day. I had purchased them as "Angel's Trumpets", but these do point up. They sure do smell pretty! Maybe I'll keep a pot of them on my deck. That is a "Chicken Free Zone"! So far anyway!

Who needs an alarm clock?? 8 weeks seems to be the standard for fisrt crows here. It doesn't matter who they came from. Roy crowed the earliest at exactly 7 weeks! Cylde followed him about 2 days later, and hasn't shutup since!
