I have never seen such beautiful dark blackish smoky blue on a Splash before.....I don't think that you should ever eat him....EVER!!!!!!!!!! You eat him and I'll be sooooo MAD!

Also.....you only have one splash Davis pullet and the other 2 are boys (

) if you don't want one of those splash boys, let me know and I will take one of them as well...they too are beautiful. I don't have a pure splash Davis roo running around anymore. The rest of the birds are looking good too....don't worry too much about the copper coming in yet...the younger ones still have lots of growing to do. Love the little light blue pullet...couldn't see to well but caught a quick glimpse of Dolly.

her and yep...she sure is a biggun! Gotta love Bill!

Hey guys my BCM babies that I am hatching have all slate toes and even the bottom of their feet are slate. Is this a problem?

Hi - There is a local seller near me that is selling the following 3 rare Marans chickens. They are thinking that breeding the following rooster with these 2 hens will produce some purebred offspring, but I was thinking the resulting chicks will be mixed Marans and no longer breed true.

1 Birchen Marans Rooster

1 Black Tail Buff Marans Hen
1 Blue Marans Hen

Can anyone tell me whether or not these 3 chickens can produce 'purebred' Marans, and if so, which colors? I've been told that the Blue and the Birchen may be able to be bred together -- any input would be helpful.

flgarden~ If I would have had a camera I would have taken a photo of him. His hackle color is the most beautiful smokey blackish looking blue and he has incredible lacing. Mel said he would post a photo of him for ya'll to see. If I had the room here for more roosters here and I had had my bigger carrier with me I would have taken Madison and another Splash Copper cockerel home with me yesterday.

Hi AZ!

I am sure folks will be along and give you some advise. I can tell you that breeding the Birchen to the Blue that you will get pure Marans offspring....let me say this......I am a believer that it does not matter what color variety of Marans are bred together....if you breed a Cuckoo Marans to a Black Copper or a Wheatens Marans to a White Marans.........the offspring will still be pure Marans, however they just won't be a pure Marans color variety, they would be mixed Marans and as long as those Marans of mixed Marans color varieties still lays an egg #4 or better on the color chart....they are still Marans. Just my whacky thoughts and I know some are going to disagree....but honestly let's think about it....if we cross a yellow lab to a black lab and a yellow lab to a chocolate lab or a chocolate lab to a black lab, do we still have labs or are they something else?
