Any much of a drive is hard on me these days Wynette. Bad arthritic hip joints really cripple me up if I have to drive more than 50 miles any more. That's what makes it so hard. Earlier in life, I drove a semi from the east coast to the west coast once a week. Wish I could still do that!

Speaking of Gnarles...I think he is having a hard time adjusting to not having as many ladies to boss around. I am going to give him a couple more girls today and see if it picks up his spirits. When I let him out on the grass, he runs back to his old coop and just stands there next to the fence for what seems like hours, talking to some of his old gals. He is still telling them where the good eats are on his side of the fence, they of course still listen to him and stick their necks as far as they can through the fence to try and eat it.
For the love of chicken......a love sick rooster...it almost breaks my heart.

I live between lincoln and omaha just off of I 80 north of a small town called Waverly. It takes me about 40 min or so to get to the Iowa line in council bluffs. Where in Missouri are you? I bet debbi would love the Marans delivery train!

Oh poor Gnarles. I know how that is. With having to rotate Roy and Clyde in this heat, it became too much of a hastle at night trying to switch them out into the pen inside the coop. So lately, Roy is outside with the ladies, and Clyde is in the chick pen at night, and in the morning let him and the older chicks into the big run, and keep the 3 smaller chicks back in their chick pen. Clyde was beside himself when all of his women were out and about with Roy, so now I keep a girl or two in with Clyde for at least part of the day. Seems lately that most of the girls want back into the run around 2pm, so that helps keep his moral up too.

As for the Splash roo, thanks everyone! If push comes down to shove, I'll just hatch some eggs. But they'd have to be pure Splash x Splash eggs! I want to guarantee me a SPLASH!!!!

With my luck, I'll hatch all pullets for the first time in my life!

Poor Gnarles...

My Gnarles boy is penned away from the girls now. He still tells them if a stray cat comes into the yard and he so wants to be with them. I wish he did not get that stupid comb gene from his dad. His comb and the second toe feathering is one too many faults. I wish he did not have the DQ because he is just so striking. He is the most beautiful black with absolutely no white under feathers. Every time I look at him I sigh. He is quite the looker. He needs to go before I change my mind about him.
