Had a nice chat with Mel last night and he says hello to everyone. He is doing great, but very busy and will be back to visit with us all soon.....he did want me to let you all know that his Blue Copper girl Dolly Parton that he got from me is laying and she is laying GINORMAS turkey sized eggs, he also said that both of his olive egger girls are laying as well. I can't wait to see photos of the eggs. He said that he would try and post some photos soon as time permits . Miss ya 'round here Mel.....but I have a sneaky feeling we might be catching up with ya around Salmon season....I understand that you have the best fishin' spot in the county right infront of your house.

I can't wait to see the splash gal.

Oh! Glad to hear Mel is doing okay. I was wondering. If you all go fishing with Mel, I will be so jelous. I haven't been able to go fishing in SOOOOO LOOONNNGGG!

TXMEL-So glad the hen took the chick in. Hope they do well together. I've got one hen raising one chick right now. I love watching them and listening to her talk to her chick. It's great.

Pink, thanks for the Mel update. I was just wondering about him and Illia the other day. Haven't seen either of them for awhile.

Another hot one here today. Opened the run this morning, and none of the girls, but one, wanted out?? Maybe I'm in for a good egg day? Laying has been really slow here with the heat, molting, and long laying cycles. Can't blame them, I'm surprised I'm getting anything at this point. Looks like no rain or breaks in the weather for at least another week! Need to mow the grass, but worry if I do, I may not have any grass left.

It's so funny watching Clyde at night getting into the chicklet coop! He insists on going in there, and literally has to get on his knees to do it. Then the 4 chicks go in with him!

I can't imagine how they are all fitting in there?? The 3 younger chicks are housing themselves in a dog crate within the chick pen for the night, until the 4 are big enough to go into the big coop with the rest of the flock. It seems Pink's babies are still ticked off at them because the new 4 took over THEIR pen and coop! Man, these guys know how to hold a grudge!

If they get the chance to be with the 4, all hell breaks loose, and they beat the tar out of them! It should be easier when 6 of the roos are gone...I hope.

Anyone need some roos???

haha...yeah sounds like a similar line up to mine....only in all honesty I probably have at least 25 to 30 roosters to cull

I've already culled down quite a few and sold off lots of my culled pullets of different breeds to some layer flocks where they just wanted some young laying stock added. I am hoping to get in another round of culling this week if at all possible while family are visiting. I'll have to wait til they go off to do something in town and then I'll have a chance to get some done.
