here's another of my blue girls. She is the sister of the one I put pics up of the other day. Its hard to tell them apart. There is a third blue sister in that same group. I can tell her apart tho since she has a slightly longer tail, but they are so stinking sweet it makes me sick.
Galavina I really don't think its fair that you have all those pretty dark blue girls to yourself I think you should send me some so you don't have to feel sooo guilty LOL!
She really has some pretty hues in her feathers. I love the darker blue girls the best. I like when thier head and neck is darker than the body. Is she as soft as she looks? I just wanna hug her and squeeze her and love her....

haha....so funny! After my disaster in hatching last year I am over the moon to have some quality blue girls growing out now. In all honesty....last year when I put the incubator away for the season, I seriously questioned whether I could continue because it had been such a heartbreaking season. Then this winter when I lost those two best cockerels I thought about quitting again...but decided to stick it out...I am SOOO glad I did. These birds growing out made all those tears worth it. I love my animals very very much if you can't tell. And yes! she is like silk! If I can ever get more photos to load I'll show you the pic of my black girl. I just about die everytime I hold her....she is the shiniest and softest of them all!
If I can keep working on developing the line further, I might get to where I will sell hatching eggs. I'm pretty focused on making them as good as I can before I sell tho. I've had some bad experiences with eggs I'd bought off of people in the past when I first started with the Marans....so I am kind of cautious about selling until I am totally happy with the level of consistency of them all the way round before I consider it more seriously. I'd loooove if I could get my egg color as dark as some of your girls lay....that color is ridiculous! I'd probably die if I found one in the nest box like that!
flgarden - yeppers, you can definitely see his lobes are red! Nice close-up - I love it when you can see such good detail! I need a new camera. Sigh....
Bravo - nice first eggie! Looks good sized, too! Nice sheen on it as well! You crack me up saying "finally" about a 24 week old pullet - holy cow!
You know, there is SOOO much waiting with chickens! Waiting for 20 days to pass....waiting for a pip.....a zip....a hatch....waiting to find out gender.....waiting for maturity....first crow....first egg.....holy cow! It's like having a child!
